In Rome, be a Roman—this saying truly came alive when I worked in the Kingdom of Bahrain as a teacher under the Ministry of Education. During December, this small island nation celebrated its National Day. The school closed for two days. It is fascinating to observe the red colours of the Bahraini flag displayed everywhere. All the main roads in the city are decorated with red and white lights. I recall posting a blog about the abundance of red in Bahrain during December, when the colours of the National Day and the red and green Christmas lights create a magical atmosphere. As an expat, celebrating the National Day was a unique experience. I remember organising many events along with my colleagues to commemorate these days.
