An epic historical drama written and directed by Lav Diaz, marking his first film made outside the Tagalog language. Starring Gael García Bernal as Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, the film portrays Magellan’s involvement in Portuguese and Spanish colonial expeditions in Southeast Asia during the early 16th century. The film premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and was later released theatrically in the Philippines, where it was selected as the country’s entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards.
