Annette Kuhn is a leading scholar in memory studies, particularly known for her work on the intersections of cultural memory, photography, cinema, and personal recollection. Her research explores how photographs and films shape individual and collective memories, blending autobiography, imagination, and historical experience. Among her major contributions are Family Secrets: Acts of Memory and Imagination (2002), An Everyday Magic: Cinema and Cultural Memory (2002), Locating Memory: Photographic Acts (2006, co-edited with Kirsten Emiko McAllister), and Exploring Cinema Memory (2023). She also co-led the AHRC-funded project “Cinema Memory and the Digital Archive – 1930s Britain & Beyond,” which investigates the role of cinema in preserving and understanding cultural memory.
